/r/ComedyEpilepsy is a meme subreddit for videos so fucked to the point you get epilepsy. It is a mix of /r/ComedyNecrophilia and /r/ComedySeizure, but for videos. The subreddit was already made before these types of memes even had a name / genre to them, and now these videos are officially called "21st century memes" by most people. Thus this subreddit can in a way, be attributed to the huge rise of this genre of meme. The subreddit was created by user u/z_kyro on May 1st, 2020.

Memes commonly reffered to as "21st century humor." They must also be video posts, no still images. Posts that pretty much can cause someone an attack of epilepsy, an overdose of random videos, sound effects, and other things.

- 1. No Images, this subreddit is for videos only. again, this subreddit is for videos where there is so much random shit going on, and is the video form of r/comedyseizure. If you want to post images, go there.
- 2. Must fit the subreddit, (look at the top post on the subreddit for an example) is it fucked and is the pinnacle of comedy? does it cause a brain aneurysm? if it does, post it.
- 3. Do not post /r/ArabFunny content here.
- 4. No reposts, reposting is allowed 1-2 months after its been posted already. If it's one of the top 100 posts of all time in the subreddit, your post will be removed.
- 5. No links redirecting to Youtube.
- 6. No posts that might fit better in /r/OkBuddyRetard
- 7. No gore.
- 8. Flair your posts correctly, if you made the post, flair it OC, if it's about the state of the subreddit use the meta flair, if it's a template video use the template flair, etc.
- 9. No Jumpscare videos.
- 10. Templates can only be posted on meme template mondays (using the flair) to avoid having this sub flooded with them.
Subreddit History[edit | edit source]
Origins[edit | edit source]
The origins of the subreddit date back to May 1st 2020 when user u/z_kyro would make /r/ComedyEpilepsy a reality. Taking inspiration from /r/ComedyNecrophilia aswell as /r/ComedySeizure and mixing them together and only featuring video meme posts on the subreddit. A proto version of what we now call as 21st century humor. Though this had already been a thing within the platform known as IFunny, these memes were often reffered to as "IFunny Poops."
Creation of An Official Discord Server[edit | edit source]
On December 20th, 2020 one of the moderators of the subreddit, u/TheDefectiveSnoo would announce the creation of an official /r/ComedyEpilepsy discord server.
Meme Monday Vote[edit | edit source]
On February 13th, 2021 there would be a public vote announced regarding "Meme template Mondays", as submissions of templates were being posted on other days than Monday, and the mods worried that this would decrease the quality of the subreddit as those were just templates not fitting the subreddit. 427 votes were casted, 100 voted to remove meme template Monday, 327 voted to keep it.

/r/EpilepsyTemplates and Removal of Meme Template Monday[edit | edit source]
Even with the users wanting to keep the idea of Meme template Monday, on April 22th, 2021 the mods would announce that all low effort posts aswell as meme templates would start being removed post the announcement, no matter if it was monday or not. Though with this announcement the mods would also advertise another community to find a replacement for users where they could find useful template memes, /r/EpilepsyTemplates.
1st Anniversary[edit | edit source]
On May 1st, 2021 the subreddit would celebrate it's first anniversary.
69,000 Member Celebration[edit | edit source]
On November 16th, 2022 the moderators would celebrate the milestone of 69,000 members joining the subreddit, with one of the moderators stating on "how the hell did we get this far" in the comment section of the announcement.
