Censura was a Discord bot used in many Irony Servers around the time of 2021-2022. It started out as an experiment to see if Nununoisy could write a better filter bot than other bots such as Dyno (Commonly used amongst Irony Servers) had.

History[edit | edit source]

The first version of Censura didn't have a logo, it was a very early prototype and would waste a lot of resources. Nununoisy had to run it on a rack server which was insanely loud, annoying and even hot. Nununoisy would eventually get tired of this tomfoolery and make an algorithm that was optimized. Thus, the second version of the bot was born, finally having a logo and it being the one that most people knew about and the one used in most servers, Censura 2 was deeply hated within almost all ironic communities, from Irony Hub to Dogelore, almost every user besides the mods hated the bot, it sometimes would bug out and ban members due to them supposedly being "an alt account", though it was a very quickly fixable issue.

Shutdown[edit | edit source]

Nununoisy would run Censura 2 on an old laptop he had in his apartment for an entire year, he would have to move thus forgetting about the whole bot. He has stated that he wishes to someday rewrite the bot again with a similar algorithm and a few internal changes. Even then, it's legacy remains. As every ex-member of Irony Hub that used the server around 2021 knows the pains of trying to type out the hard R and failing.

Filters[edit | edit source]

The filters that Censura would offer would use algorithms to determine if a user is trying to bypass a bad word that wasn't allowed in the server, Nununoisy would completely redesign the entire system, from the core algorithm to the bot itself, making it much efficient and resilient. The core algorithm was written in C++ and it was incredibly fast. The bot was written in TypeScript and just handled storing settings and communicating with Discord itself. The system ran on top of Kubernetes, as Nununoisy stated it was "super overkill" but in the end working with it would bring an unexpected surprise, thanks to his work on Censura and this experience brought with it, Nununoisy would gain an internship.

my experience working with it actually got me an internship so I can say that Censura indirectly made me money
