Peternity is the official Discord server of the YouTuber Peternity. It is one of the few remaining irony servers that have any relations to YouTubers. Although it is one of the biggest servers within the ironic meme space, Peternity is relatively unknown to many users of other irony servers, as it is only tangentially related to the greater Irony Server Family Tree. A few members from the main tree had actually been in somewhat known positions within the server, for example Rippa. He was the owner of Irony Heaven, and was once staff on the server in 2021. The server is fairly similar to most irony servers, such as what kind of channels there are and the generally less strict rules.

History

Founding, Pre-Youtube

The history of the founding of The Peternity is quite complicated. The server was created, and still owned by the user Peternity. Originally, it was made as the server for his Reddit account, u/PeterExplainsTheJoke, created on May 24, 2019, which was made for Peter Griffin Explains The Joke or Explain-It-Peter memes.

Peter would explain memes on many subreddits like r/dankmemes and r/memes until eventually getting permanently banned as those types of accounts were deemed "not allowed" on the platform. On June 5th 2019, Peter created his Discord server titled "Peter Explains The Joke" (Now Peternity) for his community that he had grown for months on Reddit. On August 3rd of 2019, Peter decided to finally leave his Reddit account entirely due to him being banned on several huge subreddits and losing interest in the joke explaining meme. On August 16, 2019, Peter made his YouTube channel which was originally called Peter Explains The Joke but was subsequently renamed to Peternity, the current server name. The name is a combination of Peter and eternity.

Soon afterwards, the server was rebranded to Peternity, due to the fact that the "Peter Explains the Joke" Meme had lost its relevance over the past months.

Server Before The 2021 Nuke

Discord announcement related to Peternity leaving Reddit's platform

Before the 2021 Nuke of Peternity, which had essentially erased every bit of history off the server, it was much less strict, with it being somewhat close to how dogelore also worked before the The Report Crisis. Within the server there was much more user participation in how it was run, with the server before the 2021 Nuke having its own #petitions channel.

The 2021 Nuke

The 2021 Nuke was a large surprise to everyone in the server, single-handedly shaping the future of Peternity by a massive scale. An administrator on the server had his account hacked, and the nuker used his account to delete almost every channel and pinged everyone multiple times. This caused about 19,000 users to leave the server, some permanently, as well as a large portion of the staff team leaving or resigning after the nuke was over. Many members also began to harass and threaten the unfortunate soul who had his account compromised, some going as far as to send him death threats. After two months, the server also celebrated its anniversary on the 5th of June 2021. As time went on, the server had largely recovered from the damages.

Post 2021 Nuke

As of current, the server has not been facing much that would threaten its existence, avoiding both The Report Crisis and malicious users of the irony hemisphere. Peternity has been constantly growing with the help of their vanity link "cracker", Peternity's YouTube Channel, his Reddit Account, and the emotes on the server. It has a large userbase and many users who chat daily. Its member count has surpassed even the largest irony servers, such as dogelore.

2023 #general Deletion

On April 1st, 2023, there was an April fool's joke where a moderator, Omar., pretended to delete the #general channel, being demoted afterwards to keep up the joke. The real general channel was hidden, and they temporarily replaced it with a new one. After the joke was over, an admin, Jesse, tried to delete the fake general but accidentally deleted the real general channel instead. It had been the longest lasting general channel at that point.
