:obamacrying:

Obama Crying (:obamacrying:) is an emoji that is commonly used in many irony servers. A versatile emote, it is typically used as a reaction to rude or unhinged messages, or to express fear, sadness, disbelief, or disagreement. It depicts actor Daniel Kaluuya portraying protagonist Chris Washington crying in a well-known scene from the 2017 horror film Get Out, which the emoji humorously misidentifies as a photo of Obama.

History

The okbuddyretard meme that was the origin of obamacrying

The meme originates from an r/okbuddyretard post made on February 4, 2020, that took another recent post from the subreddit (the Obama Crying picture with Impact font caption "when you poop and don't have to wipe")[1] and surrounded it in the motivational poster meme format with the text "OBAMA, Why you crying???". The post was presumably quickly deleted from the subreddit, as there is no longer any trace of it on the internet. The image was downloaded by Saucy before it was deleted, who reposted it to the Bruhmoment discord sometime in early 2021. It was later reposted by another user (I forgor who) in the same server, where it reached the server's starboard. It was turned into a server emote named :obamacrying: not long after, initially having an aspect ratio of roughly 12:5. This was the first known instance of the Obama Crying emote. Bruhmoment later added an additional version which was animated and had a square aspect ratio. Saucy suggested replacing both versions with a square, static image, which is the variant most commonly used today. Over time, it spread out of Bruhmoment and into other servers, and it now remains a popular emote in the community.
