Memes that have been altered by constant filter overlays into being nuked, not just deep fried.
Top 5 Posts edit
Rules edit
- 1. Follow Wheaton's law (Wheaton's Law is an internet axiom which states "Don't be a dick." It was originally used in the context of sportsmanship in online gaming but its scope was eventually expanded to apply to life in general.)
- 2. Don't post a picture of Japan.
- 3. Memes must be nuked properly. Just adding a saturation filter and noise in paint.net isn't enough. crank everything up and layer jpegs on top of eachother or whatever. Text should be almost illegible or completely illegible or make no sense (it isn't banned though). Posting a non nuked or deep fried meme will result in a 7 day ban. There is no maximum nuking.
- 4. Nothing too edgy
- 5. No Politics
- 6. No alt right garbage
- 7. This isn't a place for /r/DeepFriedMemes rejects, If you post something like "/r/deepfriedmemes removed this" then it will be removed here as well. This isn't the reject area. It probably breaks rule 3 as well.
- 8. No NSFW
- 9. Any posts that are a request for a nuke will be removed. "Can someone nuke this?" posts or "Nuke please" posts will be removed. Go to r/NukedRequests for these posts.
Timeline of Subreddit Events edit
Origins edit
The subreddit was created on January 14th, 2017 by user u/DogsRNice. It was probably inspired by the rise of /r/DeepFriedMemes and there being a significant lack in representation for "Nuked Memes." There was a huge rise in the popularity of the subreddit and even a partnership on a widget with the actual DeepFriedMemes subreddit.
Discord Server Poll edit
On August 2nd, 2018 the owner of the subreddit would announce a poll to see if any users were interested in joining an official discord server of the subreddit, eventually enough a discord server would be created though.
Account Crisis edit
On September 21st, 2018 there would be a small crisis related to u/DogsRNice losing access to his reddit account during a time of moderator applications, an administrator of reddit was able to get it back though.
Temporary Subreddit Shutdown edit
On October 11th, 2018 the subreddit would be temporarily shut down by the owner due to him not having a good internet connection and not being able to moderate the subreddit properly. He would come back around 11 days after.
Second Moderator (It's Govern wtf) edit
On February 8th, 2019 user u/Govern would become the second moderator of the subreddit, a few other announcements would also be posted before, relating to the issue of users not posting actual nuked memes, or using this as a second deep fried memes subreddit.
Top Post purge and Post Restrictions edit
On September 22nd, 2019 there was an announcement made regarding a top post purge and post restrictions, two of the people who moderated the subreddit (DogsRNice and Govern) were "slacking off" as said within the announcement, and with a recent explosion in popularity of the subreddit it would be constantly flooded with memes that didn't fit the subreddit for months, all posts submissions would begin to be restricted and put into a queue. (Similar to how ComedyHeaven works now) some users who already posted things within the subreddit would also be automatically approved.
Approval System edit
With the subreddit beginning to drop in quality and the moderation slacking off with there being constant submissions that didn't fit what a nuked meme was on September 23rd, 2019 the owner of the subreddit would announce the creation of /r/NukedMemesApprovals, and an approval system for /r/NukedMemes. If a member wanted to post in the community they would have to be approved in the other community first. This would be met with quite a controversial reaction from the regular users within the comment section. Eventually though on September 26th, 2019 u/DogsRNice would actually reenable posting permissions for everyone as it was a somewhat harsh decision regarding these restrictions.
/r/NukedRequests edit
On August 2nd, 2022 mod u/Razvix would announce the creation of /r/NukedRequests, as he had seen a somewhat large increase in users posting images or videos and asking other members to nuke them, in an attempt to prevent that from happening /r/NukedRequests would be made.
