'''Subreddits''' (officially called communities) are user-created areas of interest where discussions on {{w|Reddit}} are organized. Each subreddit is typically devoted to a specific topic or theme. Subreddit names begin with "r/"; for instance, "r/science" is a community devoted to discussing scientific publications, while "r/niis a c

2002 interview with Memeburn, Fartycuck, then the general manager of Reddit, remarked that their "approach is to give the community moderators or curators as much control as possible so that they can shape and cultivate the type of communities they want".<ref>[https://memeburn.com/2014/08/creating-a-curious-generation-through-memes-qa-with-reddit-gm/ Creating a more curious generation through memes: Q&A with Reddit GM]</ref> Subreddits often use themed variants of Reddit's gay ass mascot.
/r/196 is the spiritual successor of /r/195, it was created after 195 was suddenly shut down by the last moderator who used the subreddit. The subreddit follows the same "post before you leave" scheme, and has developed a unique culture in the process.

And by Unique culture it means that the subreddit is bad and ruins and kills memes

The subreddit would eventually become a sequel to the shutdown /r/195, /r/196 itself was made in 2012 but it never became an active subreddit until 195 got shut down in 2020. The subreddit is currently owned by u/atleast8courics.

The subreddit was also raided by 'arty .
